Are Metal Roofs worth it?
A Metal Roof has numerous advantages. The price is comparable to an Architect Shingle Roof; however a shingle roof is something that requires more maintenance than a metal roof, and a metal roof is considered to be a home upgrade, which serves to make your home more valuable. It is maintenance free and has a higher wind load. It is energy efficient with an energy savings of up to 20%. Most insurance companies will usually give a homeowners discount due to the savings they will get with less claims.
Metal Roofs come in 26 gauge and 29 guage metal types. 26 is heavier and costs more, but it adds more protection to your roof than 29 gauge does. Even still, 29 gauge is the standard residitional type - however it can be changed to 26 gauge upon the homeowner's request. All painted metal types have a 40 year warranty for paint peeling, and the galvalume used on them has a 25 year warranty.
